Jari Pará is OURWRLD

We are excited to parter with Pachama on this project. We are carbon offsetting with them in hopes to become 100% carbon neutral by mid-2021. The goal is simple, leave the earth a better place than we found it. We are proud of our zero inventory business model, and will be furthering our efforts with carbon offsets in this new partnership. You can read more about the what and the why here, but please understand that we have chosen a select piece of land with to support future growth through at least 2044.

Sustainablity is very important to us and we hope it is for you as well. This is a large problem for any one person to tackle, however with every opportunity taken, a little bit of progress can be made. From suppliers to consumers, we all play our part. Take a moment to read about our chosen area to impact.

How we plan to do this is quite simple. As we are a zero inventory company, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our partners by offsetting it based on total weight shipped around the world. This is quite an enormous undertaking, however for every order placed, we are offsetting the carbon emissions by 100% to ensure our world is just as it was, and potentially a bit better than before.

Jari Pará

Type: REDD+ Avoided Unplanned Deforestation  |  Standard: Verified Carbon Standard
Location: Brazil  |  Developer: Biofílica

Jari Pará Project is a forest conservation project. It reduces potential greenhouse gas emissions by protecting a large swath of forest (almost twice the size of Luxembourg) that otherwise would have been destroyed. It is a REDD+ project that is at the front lines of deforestation in the Amazon today trying to stop clear-cutting practices that are causing the loss of so much rainforest today.

Co-benefits

This project is very biodiverse, providing shelter to more than 2400 flora and fauna species. It forms an ecological corridor with several conservation units in its surroundings with a rich biodiversity, diverse plant formations and species of ecological and social importance. The area also plays an important socio-environmental role in the region as it serves as home for hundreds of rural families. Through actions that encourage the responsible exploration of natural resources, the project promotes the conservation of natural resources, coupled with socioeconomic development focusing on sustainable business chains to improve the well-being of communities as a result of project activities.

Monitoring

Some deforestation is detectable within the project since its inception, however this appears to be uncoordinated and due to small farm activity, and is relatively minor for a project this large. Over the past five years however, both the project and region have experienced decline as deforestation has increased. Given the current political challenges in Brazil, projects such as these are experiencing incredible pressure. Remote data is being provided to the project developer, however, as new solutions as to address these challenges are created.
